AI has really exploded this year and it is really getting to a place where you can do a lot of amazing stuff really quick. Below is the things I have built so far in 2026.
Complete blog rebuild and made it so I can add in photos from my trips nice and easy and you can flip them to see where they were taken. This took all of about 30min to get running while I was away on Holiday. This is on the site you are reading this post.
I updated 16pixels.com.au my business site. Added some of the work I was doing and made it more fun.
I started trying to build an app and get it into the app store. My first attempt was a hacker news reader with some AI summary features and offline mode to make it easy for me to read on the train and to try and stop looking at shit like instagram. I pull in the top comments and the articles and cache it.
I failed to get past app review with this one falling into the apple rule around just displaying content from the web and not doing anything with it. In the end I just use this myself and did not continue to try and get it onto the app store.
The next app I worked on was StuFit. This was to replace stronglifts app that I was paying $99 a year for. I had way to big vision for this app and at one point had an apple watch part to it along with it doing weigts programs it also tracked runs. AI can make it easy to get this work done but you still need to know what you want and make it all work together. This did noit work I was doing too much and the watch app was really hard to get running well.
I have sinced killed a bunch of the features and changed it a lot. The app now just drops you initially into a chat and you say how much time you have and if you want to do cardio or weights. Then it comes up with a program for the day. So far this is working well. I have not attempted to get this listed on the stores yet. It needs more work.
The one app I did get onto the store this year is Glimmer Health. My health app using fully on device AI and pulling all your health data from apple health. So me the app dev knows nothing and see nothing. Also no account required or sign up.
It lets you log food with the onboard apple fundation AI models. They are not close in terms of smarts but do keep everything personal and away from big AI company. Check it out at https://glimmerhealth.app and give it a go. This did get onto the store after a few failed reviews by apple so happy about that.
A few other things I have also built this year:
- Homework bot pulls in overdue homework for my kids and sends me a message so I can nag my kids.
- NFL Day a site that ranks all the NFL games played without giving any spoilers so I can pick the best replays to watch after work.
- Dinner Box. A dinnerly rip off that allows us to create our own dinner box for the week or fortnight.
- The tutor an AI tutor tha never gives you an answer it uses socratic style learning to make sure you understand an answer. You can provide the refernce material. My kids are testing this out.
- https://peninsulamap.co cool wall posters with real maps.
Yep this is about 1000% more stuff that I have built this year compared to any other and yep all down to AI. I did manage to write this post however and not use AI so I guess you can give me that.
